Toolbox Treat Holder for Father's Day w/ Gift Card Holder

Gift Card Slides Behind Greeting Strip
Last year for Father's Day I made a toolbox gift card. (See that post here.)  I recently saw a "card in a box" made like a toolbox, but the lid remained open. That gave me the idea to make this toolbox with a functional lid! The toolbox closed measures 4 inches wide, 2-1/2 inches deep, and 2-1/2 inches high.  It is deep enough to add some treats or a small gift, and the lid holds a gift card! The lid closes with a magnet and the drawers are for looks only.

As you can see in the photo above, I found some cute little tool erasers at Dollar Tree that I added inside my box, after adding some black crinkle paper. If you have a tool die set,  you could make some little tools.

Materials Needed:
  • Heavweight red cardstock measuring 9 x 10-1/2 inches (I used Stampin' Up)
  • One-quarter inch flat magnets (one set)
  • 3 pieces of red cardstock cut 3/4" x 4"
  • 3 pieces of black cardstock cut 1/4" x 4"
  • 3 pieces of silver/gray cardstock cut 1/8" x 4"
  • 3 strips of 1/4" foam tape cut to 4 inches
  • 1 strip of white cardstock cut 3/4" x 4" (or you could use red cardstock)
  • 1 scrap of white cardstock for the "Happy" or other greeting
  • Glue dots
  • Black crinkle paper for inside box
  • Strong adhesive (tear tape, red line tape, or glue)

Directions (with photos):

Fold and crease on score lines, cut up to vertical score line on each side.

Attach glue dots to very edge of each side of 4" strip, leaving top/bottom open to slide in gift card.
Add additional stamped greeting, if desired, above gift card strip. Glue this piece down. It will only be seen when gift card is removed.

Attach magnet to outside flap of toolbox and the other magnet onto the front of the toolbox in the same position.

And it's done! It may seem like a lot of steps, but ir really does go together fairly quickly. In fact, if you want to make more than one, it's easy to just cut all your pieces at once and assemble. I hope you enjoy this project. It can be made in any color toolbox your guy may have.

Note: The stamp set I used for my Father's Day greeting is Simply Stated by Catherine Pooler Designs.

Note: If you would rather work from a written PDF with photos, I have that available at my Etsy Shop for a small charge.

Stampin' Friends Blog Hop 2017 - Flowers/Sympathy

This month's blog hop features Flowers/Sympathy Cards. I opted for this tea cup "Thinking of You" card and coordinating Tea Bag Box. Be sure to check below for the complete list of bloggers and see all their great cards and projects too!

My card uses Stampin' Up patterned paper from 2015 called Into the Woods as well as an older SU stamp that has been in my collection for years. Maybe some of you recognize it! This card would serve as a sympathy card, get well card, or simply "thinking of you."

The card is 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 inches, side folding. I layered the DSP on top of white cardstock and then onto the rich razzleberry cardstock base. I stamped the image onto white cardstock, colored it using coordinating colors and my blender pen, and die cut it using the Stitched Framelits by Stampin' Up. I inked the edges of the circle with rich razzleberry ink for dimension.

I then punched out some flowers in rich razzleberry and blackberry bliss using the Petite Petals Punch by Stampin' Up and inked around the edges using the same ink colors. I used my hole punch to punch out some crushed curry circles for the flower centers. I then layered the flowers along the lefthand side of the circle and attached them with glue dots. I also added a small thick baker's twine bow in blackberry bliss.

For my project, I made this cute little tea bag box from a pattern by Pootles (pootles.co.uk - see link below). It holds two foil wrapped tea bags and measures 3 x 4 inches. I stamped only the tea cup image this time, colored in the flowers with coordinating colors using my blender pen, and cut it out with a 1-3/8 inch circle punch. I layered that onto another 1-1/2 inch circle and then again onto a 1-7/8 circle cut out with the Stitched Framelits. The box is pinched shut and held closed by the crushed curry ribbon tied around the top.

The tea bag box starts with a piece of cardstock 4-1/2 x 7-1/2 inches, scored at 3, 3-1/2, 6-1/2 and 7 inches on the long side and 1/2 inch on the short side. Trim on the score lines and fold into a box, securing with a strong adhesive. It's a very simple project. I added the matching DSP and white cardstock as I did on the card. If you would like to see Pootles' tutorial on You Tube, here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JATYa8tZfgs

Even though I used a retired paper and stamp, the card and box can easily be adapted to any other stamp and papers you have. These are just some of my favorites and I like going "back in time" occasionally to see what I can create! I recently cleaned out my craft room and I found a lot of forgotten treasures!

Graduation Card

It's that time of year when the graduation annoucements start arriving! This was a simple card to put together and can be made in any school colors.

I used an older Stampin' Up stamp for the graduation cap and the brand new Simply Stated Stamp Set by Catherine Pooler Designs for the "Congratulations." This set has stamps for every occasion and I will definitely be using it again and again!

The card is a standard 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 inches, side folding. The black layer is 4 x 5-1/4 and the red layer is 3-3/4 x 5. I stamped the graduation cap onto the red layer using VersaMark ink for a patterned effect.

I stamped the graduation cap in black onto a white 1-1/2 inch circle and layered that on top of a black 1-7/8 inch circle die cut with the Stitched  Shapes FramelitsDies from Stampin' Up.

I stamped the "Congratulations" onto white cardstock, cut around the black stamped border, and layered it onto a piece of black cardstock cut at 1-5/8 x 2-5/8.

Other than adding a dimensional behind the black circle, everything else is adhered down flat, so no problems with mailing and no additional postage needed!

If you're looking for a simple graduation card, this may fit the bill!

Sunflower Mother's Day Card

I made this sunflower Mother's Day card using the Crazy About You stamp set by Stampin' Up, along with a "happy" die cut from Momenta. I like the bright black, white and yellow of this card.

The card base is black, 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 inches, side folding. I used a piece of yellow and white polka dot paper from the Stampin' Up brights DSP stack (daffodil delight), cut at 4 x 5-1/4 inches. I layered a piece of black and white striped paper (Paper Studio) onto a piece of daffodil delight cardstock cut at 2-1/4 x 5-1/4 inches.

The flower is stamped with the Crazy About You stamp set from Stampin' Up and punched out with the flower medallion punch (Stampin' Up, now retired). I embossed a piece of black cardstock with a dotted swiss embossing folder by Cuttlebug and cut out the circle using the Stampin' Up Layering Circles Framelit Dies.

Before attaching the 2-1/4 x 5-1/4 inch layered piece to the card, I wrapped it with a piece of black and white gingham ribbon (Offray from Walmart). I attached the flower with a dimensional dot and added a small bow tied in the gingham ribbon below the flower and down the "stem" with a glue dot to resemble leaves.

The "happy" is die cut from black cardstock using the Momenta dies from Hobby Lobby and the "Mother's Day" is stamped with the Crazy About You stamp set from Stampin' Up. I stamped it on white, cut around it, and then layered it onto a piece of black cardstock.

A Kansas sunflower for a Kansas Mom!
